The solo exhibition, Dark Shines Powerful, features ink drawn illustrations on paper, with little to no color other than black and white, by artist Natalye Valentina. The drawings display skulls, horns, witches, bones, and other mystical content that have historically been deemed as “dark”. The illustrations bring light to the subject matter through delicate and playful contours presenting them as beautiful and benign.
Specialty items such as art prints, zines, stickers, and shirts will also be available for purchase during the First Friday opening reception on September 6th from 6:00-8:00pm.
Natalye Valentina is a visual artist born and raised in the Central Valley and Central Coast of California.
Her drawings, paintings, and prints often depict images of nature and/or women with decorative elements inspired by her interest in magic and parallel realities. Although focused mostly on her illustrations, she occasionally carves designs into wooden objects and also creates small self-published books or “zines”.
